SYLLABUS
Overall Goal: To equip students with a comprehensive understanding of graphic design techniques and prepare them for professional careers in the industry.
This course will be divided into three main phases:
Phase 1: Advanced Editing Techniques (Month 1)
Module 1: Refining Storytelling
- Deep dive into editing theory: shot types, continuity editing, montage theory.
- Exploring advanced editing techniques: J-cuts, L-cuts, jump cuts, cutaway shots.
- Applying storytelling principles through editing: pacing, rhythm, building suspense.
Module 2: Color Grading and Correction
- Understanding color theory and its impact on mood and emotions.
- Advanced color grading techniques: primary and secondary color correction, color balancing.
- Using color grading tools to create specific looks and styles (cinematic, documentary, etc.).
Module 3: Audio Editing and Mixing
- Advanced audio editing techniques: dialogue cleaning, noise reduction, Foley sound.
- Mixing strategies: creating depth and balance with multiple audio tracks.
- Using sound design to enhance emotional impact and storytelling.
Phase 2: Motion Graphics and VFX (Month 2)
Module 4: Introduction to Motion Graphics
- Principles of animation: keyframing, easing, interpolation.
- Creating basic motion graphics elements like titles, lower thirds, transitions.
- Integrating motion graphics into video projects for visual storytelling.
Module 5: Visual Effects (VFX)
- Green screen compositing techniques: chroma keying, spill cleanup.
- Basic VFX creation: applying effects, tracking objects, creating rotoscopes.
- Understanding the limitations and ethical considerations of VFX.
Phase 3: Advanced Editing Software (Month 3)
Module 6: Advanced Workflows and Tools
- Mastering keyboard shortcuts and advanced editing techniques for speed and efficiency.
- Utilizing project management tools and organization within the editing software.
- Exploring scripting and automation for repetitive tasks.
Module 7: Multicam Editing
- Working with multicam footage: synchronization techniques, angle selection.
- Building compelling narratives from multiple camera viewpoints.
- Editing for live events and broadcast productions.
Module 8: Collaboration and Workflow Integration
- Understanding project management for video editing teams.
- Collaboration tools and strategies: cloud storage, feedback systems.
- Exporting for different platforms: YouTube, social media, broadcast.
Phase 4: Industry-Specific Editing (Month 4)
Module 9: Documentary Editing
- Interview techniques and editing for impactful storytelling.
- Archival footage integration and b-roll management.
- Constructing timelines for factual storytelling.
Module 10: Narrative Editing
- Advanced editing techniques for feature films and short films.
- Working with complex storylines and character development.
- Creating emotional impact through editing decisions.
Module 11: Commercial Editing
- Understanding the advertising industry and its video needs.
- Pacing and structure for effective product promotion.

Phase 5: Project Development and Portfolio Building (Month 5-6)

Module 13: Capstone Project
- Applying learned skills to create a complex, polished video project.

- Planning, shooting, editing, and finalizing a professional-quality video.
Module 14: Industry Preparation
- Resume and portfolio building for video editing careers.
- Freelancing vs. in-house editing positions.
- Networking and job search strategies in the video editing industry.

- A Computer with recommended Intel i7 CPU, 16GB RAM and 8GB Graphics Card configuration.
- Internet Connection with recommended 60Mbps to 100 Mbps speed.
