SYLLABUS
Overall Goal: To equip students with a comprehensive understanding of graphic design techniques and prepare them for professional careers in the industry.
This course will be divided into three main phases:
Phase 1: Foundational Editing Skills (Month 1)
Module 1: Introduction to Video Editing
- History and principles of editing
- Understanding the editing workflow (pre-production, production, post-production)
- The user interface and workspace of your chosen editing software
- Importing and organizing media files
Module 2: Editing Fundamentals
- Making cuts, trims, and splits
- Working with the timeline and tracks
- Adding transitions and effects (basic)
- Understanding continuity editing techniques (match cuts, jump cuts, eyeline matches)
Module 3: Audio Editing
- Working with audio tracks and levels
- Adding background music and sound effects
- Basic audio editing techniques (fades, cuts, normalization)
- Voiceover recording and editing
Module 4: Color Correction and Grading
- Introduction to color theory in video
- Basic color correction tools (levels, curves)
- Creating a consistent color look
- Exporting videos for different platforms
Phase 2: Advanced Editing Techniques (Month 2)
Module 5: Text, Titles, and Graphics
- Creating and editing text overlays
- Working with motion graphics and animation (basic)
- Integrating titles and graphics into your edits
Module 6: Multicam Editing
- Working with footage from multiple cameras
- Synchronizing audio and video tracks
- Switching between camera angles for a dynamic edit
Module 7: Advanced Editing Workflows
- Proxy editing for smoother performance
- Working with nested sequences and timelines
- Collaboration tools and techniques
Module 8: Storytelling Through Editing
- Shot composition and framing basics
- Pacing and rhythm in editing
- Building a narrative structure through editing
- Using editing techniques to evoke emotions
Phase 3: Project Focus and Portfolio Building (Month 3)
Module 9: Choose Your Project Focus
- Students select a specific video editing genre (e.g., YouTube videos, social media promos, documentaries, short films)
- Researching successful examples within the chosen genre
- Scriptwriting and storyboarding for the project
Module 10: Project Development and Editing
- Students film their own footage or use provided resources
- Applying learned editing techniques to their project
- Adding music, sound effects, and graphics
- Color grading and finalizing the project
Module 11: Portfolio Building and Career Exploration
- Exporting videos in the appropriate format
- Building a portfolio website or online showcase
- Freelancing and job opportunities for video editors
- The future of video editing and trends
Course Objectives
- Introduce students to the fundamental principles of graphic design and their production pipeline.
- Equip students with the skills to create basic graphic design using industry-standard software.
- Develop students’ understanding of editing’s creative and technical aspects.
- Foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills in video editing.
Basic Requirement
- A Computer with recommended Intel i7 CPU, 16GB RAM and 8GB Graphics Card configuration.
- Internet Connection with recommended 60Mbps to 100 Mbps speed.
- One Webcam.
