SYLLABUS
Overall Goal: To equip students with a comprehensive understanding of graphic design techniques and prepare them for professional careers in the industry.
This course will be divided into two main phases:
Phase 1: Deep Dive into Core Techniques
(Month 1)
Module 1: Refining Workflow Efficiency
- Optimizing project setup and organization.
- Advanced usage of expressions for automation.
- Scripting basics for automating repetitive tasks.
- Effective use of plugins for extended functionality.
Module 2: Mastering Animation Principles
- Advanced animation techniques: squash & stretch, anticipation, follow-through, secondary motion.
- Animation with sound: creating impactful visuals based on audio.
- Character animation: using puppet tools for expressive characters.
- Animating text with advanced features: character animation tools, motion paths, and calligraphic strokes.
Module 3: Compositing Powerhouse
- Advanced keying techniques: green screen, blue screen, chroma keying, and spill removal.
- Rotoscoping for precise object isolation.
- Advanced masking for complex compositing.
- Tracking: motion tracking and camera tracking for seamless integration of elements.
Module 4: Color Correction and Visual Effects
- Advanced color correction techniques: primary and secondary color correction, color grading, and LUTs (Look Up Tables).
- Creating realistic lighting effects and simulations.
- Particle simulations for dynamic effects: fire, smoke, explosions, and more.
- Introduction to 3D in After Effects: creating and animating basic 3D shapes and compositions.
Phase 2: Project-Based Learning and Portfolio Development (Month 2)
Module 5: Choosing Your Project Focus
- Defining your creative goals and target audience.
- Brainstorming project ideas and storyboarding.
- Scriptwriting for animation projects (optional).
Module 6: Pre-Production and Asset Creation
- Creating mood boards and style guides.
- Designing and animating motion graphics elements.
- Importing and preparing external assets (sound effects, music, footage).
- Creating and refining animatics for project flow.
Module 7: Advanced Compositing and Animation
- Integrating all the learned techniques in your project.
- Fine-tuning animation timing and easing for impactful visuals.
- Advanced text animation and typography.
- Adding sound design and music for a complete experience.
Module 8: Polishing, Rendering, and Portfolio Presentation
- Optimizing compositions for rendering.
- Understanding different rendering formats and outputs.
- Building a compelling After Effects portfolio.
- Presentation and feedback on final projects.
Course Objectives
- Introduce students to the fundamental principles of graphic design and their production pipeline.
- Equip students with the skills to create basic graphic design using industry-standard software.
- Develop students’ understanding of editing’s creative and technical aspects.
- Foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills in video editing.
Basic Requirement
- A Computer with recommended Intel i7 CPU, 16GB RAM and 8GB Graphics Card configuration.
- Internet Connection with recommended 60Mbps to 100 Mbps speed.
- One Webcam.
