SYLLABUS
Overall Goal: To equip students with a comprehensive understanding of graphic design techniques and prepare them for professional careers in the industry.
Computer Fundamentals and Applications
(6 months)
- Introduction to Computers: This module covers the basic concepts of computers, including their history, generations, hardware components (CPU, memory, storage, input/output devices), and software (system software and application software).
- Operating Systems: You’ll learn about popular operating systems like Windows and their basic functionalities like file management, multitasking, and navigating the graphical user interface (GUI).
- Word Processing: This section focuses on using a word processing application like Microsoft Word. You’ll learn to create, edit, format documents, insert tables, images, and explore features like mail merge and templates.
- Spreadsheets: In this module, you’ll be introduced to spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel. You’ll learn to create and manage worksheets, enter and manipulate data, use formulas and functions for calculations, create charts and graphs to visualize data.
- Presentation Software: This section covers using presentation software like Microsoft PowerPoint. You’ll learn to create presentations with slides, add text, images, charts, apply formatting and transitions, and deliver presentations effectively.
- Introduction to the Internet: This module provides a basic understanding of the internet, including web browsing, searching the web using search engines, and email communication.
- Using the Internet for Research
- Safe searching techniques for kids
- Finding information on the internet using keywords
- Evaluating websites for accuracy (basic concepts)
- Introduction to Email
- The concept of email and its purpose (in a simple way)
- Composing and sending basic emails (with adult supervision)
- Importance of email etiquette
- Typing Test: Typing speed, spelling correction, word space & punctuation position correction.
- Project on Learned Skills: You might have a capstone project where you apply the skills learned throughout the course to a practical scenario. This could involve building a database application, creating a complex presentation, or automating tasks using a programming language
Assesment
Regular assignments and projects to test understanding and practical skills.
Midterm and final exams to assess theoretical knowledge.
Portfolio review and presentation to evaluate skill and professionalism.
